Bishop Perowne Academy Conversion

30 April 2012

In the light of the Department of Education policy of encouraging high schools to convert to Academy status, the governors of the Bishop Perowne CE College examined this policy and the way it would influence the future development of the College.

As a result of academic and examination results last year the College was encouraged to apply for permission to convert into an academy, on a stand alone basis, without the need for sponsors.

With the support and encouragement of the University of Worcester, the King’s School Worcester and Yamazaki Mazak U.K. Ltd, the College applied to the Department of Education earlier this year and was notified this week by the Secretary of State of his agreement to this conversion with effect from 1st May. Bishop Perowne CE College will now have the opportunity to use the freedoms and flexibilities of Academy status, to share best practice and work with others to bring about sustained improvements to all schools in the area.

Governors and staff look forward to the challenge of working with students and parents alike to achieve ever improving levels of attainment within this new status.
