GCSE results 2018: Bishop Perowne CE College
By Liz Sharpe
STAFF and students at Bishop Perowne are celebrating after receiving their 'best ever' GCSE results.
Some 78.5 per cent of all entries (1,332) were graded at a pass grade 4 or higher, compared to 67.5 per cent in 2017.
In particular, the 136 students excelled in English and maths with 77 per cent achieving a grade 4 or higher in English, and 65.9 per cent in maths, increases of 12 per cent and five percent respectively on last year results.
Bishop Perowne students also did extremely well in science with 76.6 per cent of students achieving a grade 4 or higher, compared to 63 per cent receiving the equivalent grade C or higher in 2017.
Notably, four students achieved an outstanding 30 GCSEs between them at grades 9-7 – a grade 9 puts students in to the top 2-3% of the whole UK student population:
Mark Pollard, Headteacher at Bishop Perowne, said: "We're delighted with the results that have been achieved. Our students who took GCSEs this year were collectively below the national academic average when joining the school, so their record-breaking achievement deserves to be celebrated and they should all be extremely proud of their accomplishment. We anticipate that our Progress 8 score will be positive again this year, demonstrating our students have achieved more than expected.
"The results are testament to the hard work and commitment everyone has put in to driving higher standards across the school and striving for higher achievement over the past few years and we wish all students the best of luck with their future endeavours."
