Students organise successful Sportshall Athletics competition
Year 10 student leaders organised a fun Sportshall Athletics competition for young pupils from four Worcester Primary Schools on Friday 17th November.
The students set up a number of engaging activities for 120 pupils from Claines Primary School, Northwick Manor Primary School, St Barnabas CE Primary School and St George's Primary School.
The morning saw the primary school children learn different field events in the school's sports hall, including throwing a foam javelin, chest pushing a weighted ball, and learning the long jump and triple jump. Additionally, the pupils took part in team track events such as obstacle relays and sprints.
Sportshall Athletics is a national school programme of indoor track and field for children between the ages of 4 and 16. It focuses on fitness and multi-skill development providing a grounding for all sports.
Pupils from St Barnabas CE Primary School were the overall winners of the competition and will now go on to represent the area in the city finals.
Mark Pollard, Headteacher, commented: "The pupils from the primary schools showed so much enthusiasm and support for each other ensuring the morning had a great atmosphere. Our students worked extremely hard to organise a fantastic event and it really highlighted what they can accomplish when they work as a team. We wish St Barnabas all the very best for the final."
