Well done, Frankie

After the triathlon events that Frankie Knight, a Year 10 student, had signed up for were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he decided to complete his own over the recent half-term break to raise money for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS).

On Saturday 5th June, Frankie’s Olympic distance triathlon saw him start by swimming 1.6km, which he completed in 32 minutes, before cycling for 40km in a time of 1 hour and 50 minutes, and finishing with a 10km run which he completed in 53 minutes.

This was Frankie’s first triathlon and he has been training hard for the past couple of months.

Frankie commented: “I was disappointed that the triathlons I was hoping to compete in had to be cancelled and I didn’t want to wait until they were rearranged for next year, so I decided to take part in my own, and the school has been really supportive. I’m pleased with the times and, although I was so tired at the end, I’ll definitely be doing more.

“My mum suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, so the NRAS is a charity my family supports and the money will go towards research into finding a cure. I was hoping to raise £500, but I’m currently on an amazing £700, and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated.”

Everyone at the school is extremely proud of Frankie. He’s a student who enjoys taking part in every sport we offer and to organise his own triathlon and commit to training shows fantastic dedication. Completing the triathlon in just over three hours is amazing for his age, especially when you consider he did it on one of the hottest days of the year. We look forward to supporting Frankie in further sporting endeavours.

If you would like to support Frankie’s fundraising, a donation can be taken to Student Services.
