Equality & Diversity

Equality

Equality is about fairness and equality of opportunity.

Advancing equality of opportunity may involve treating people differently. Some people may need extra help or adjustments to be a part of the school community.

This includes teachers, non-teaching/support staff, cleaning and catering staff as well as our students, parents and school governors.

The Equality Act of 2010 states there are nine “protected characteristics,” these are:

  • age
  • disability
  • gender reassignment
  • marriage / civil partnership
  • pregnancy / maternity
  • race
  • religion and belief
  • sex
  • sexual orientation

As a school, we pay “due regard” by ensuring we do the following:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment
  • Advance equality of opportunity
  • Foster good relations between different groups

Diversity

Diversity is about valuing people as individuals and learning from our differences. Our differences can be visible and invisible.

We promote diversity to ensure opportunities are available to all and potential can be fulfilled. We also celebrate diversity to educate others about differences between people to foster understanding and deep respect.

We aim to be a fully diversity friendly school and are supported by our Christian values in our quest.
