Building work has started

Building work to expand and improve the facilities at Bishop Perowne CE College has started.

We received £2.25m from Worcestershire County Council to help us complete work so student intake can increase from 210 to 240 students. The plans will see six new classrooms created and a new open plan kitchen and dining area, which will be significantly larger than the current space.

We also received £250,000 from the Government’s Condition Improvement Fund, which helps schools make vital improvements, and has been used to refurbish the windows in the science block and reroof the reception area.

Wolverhampton-based construction company Interclass will be completing the building work, which is expected to be completed by summer 2022 and Site Manager Mattew Howe will be overseeing the work.

Jane Price, Headteacher, commented:

“We have seen an increase in the number of students joining us year-on-year, so we’re delighted to see the work get started to improve and increase our facilities.

“With a rising number of students across the county, the renovation is going to enable us to increase our intake by 30 students every year, meaning we will eventually have an extra 150 students in the school who will benefit from a modern learning environment.”

Des O’Neill, Preconstruction Director at Interclass, added:

“We are thrilled to be working with Bishop Perowne CE College on their proposed expansion project, which builds on our strong track record in the education sector. It’s a real privilege to be entrusted with what is a significant development for the school and one that will hopefully play a key role in helping the students reach their full potential for many years to come. We very much look forward to handing over the project ahead of the new academic year in 2022.”
