Students’ creative work being published in a book

Six budding writers are celebrating after each winning a national Young Writers 2022 award. The six pieces of creative writing will now be published in an upcoming book called Twisted Tales.

Young Writers promotes poetry and creative writing for children and young people aged between 5 and 18 years old. The competition invited students to create a piece of writing that was no more than 100 words and focused on the villain of the story.  The students were encouraged to think about how the story may change if it was told from the villain’s point of view, or how the baddie may just be misunderstood.

The winners and their story titles are:

  • Billy Redfern-Webb – ‘A life not lived’
  • Katelyn Johnson – ‘Sweet Revenge’
  • Cameron Price – ‘Never Belonged’
  • Bailey Cornish – ‘Joker: Unsolved Secret’
  • Kiera Davis – ‘One Last Chance’
  • Chelsea Allen – ‘What Mothers Say Isn’t Always Right’

Jane Price, Headteacher, commented:

“It’s lovely to see such budding talent! The subject really encouraged the students to think differently and be creative. Congratulations to Billy, Katelyn, Cameron, Bailey, Kiera and Chelsea; we’re delighted their stories have been selected and we are looking forward to seeing their work published in the book.”
